Epic Games has long disliked the revenue cut taken by smartphone stores. Indeed, Epic tried to dodge the 30% Apple tax recently during an in-game event for Fortnite.
Apple then blocked Fortnite from the App Store, with iOS users prevented from downloading future updates. In addition, Android players using Google Play are now also unable to update Fortnite to play the newest season, Chapter 2 – Season 4.
To get around this, if you’re on Android, you’ll need to side-load via Fortnite.com/Android. However, for the many people who downloaded Fortnite via Google Play already, you’re basically stuck on Chapter 2 – Season 3 (v13.40 update) with “Cosmetic purchases” added after the v13.40 version not being available within the Google Play store.
The situation between Epic Games (who’ve now produced this massive “#FreeFortnite” FAQ) shows no signs of improving, with Epic stating…
Apple and Google collect an exorbitant 30% fee on all payments. If Apple and Google lower their fees on payments, Epic will pass along the savings to players.
We’ll keep you tuned on progress, but in all honesty you’re probably better playing Fortnite on a console right now.
